The Himalayan Dream - Ladakh

Image
The snow-capped mountains, hairpin roads surrounded by the mighty Himalayas, steep curves, Maggie accompanied with a cup of tea, colorful monasteries, turquoise blue water, burning sun, white sand dunes, double humped camels, freezing wind, tall popular trees, camping and dipping in the Pangong Lake, the hustle and bustle of the Leh markets and influence of Tibetan culture will live in my memories for the lifetime Leh The road trip from Manali to Leh was a feast to my eyes and soul. The hairpin roads of Rohtang pass led to the steep curves of Keylong followed by the beautiful roads of Balarcha and Tanglang La pass left me spell bound . Never in my life have I been so close to the nature. The eateries on the way serve delicious Maggie, Aloo paratha, Thukpa, kaali dal – chawal , and of course tea. Maggie on the way :) After a spectacular journey of two days on the curvaceous roads of Himalayas brilliantly maintained by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) we reac...

Goa with Love

Image
Roads surrounded with lush greenery leads to magnificent beaches, yes, I am talking about Goa. My affair with Goa started in Oct 2010 and it’s still going strong. Oh! What a destination. Where on earth I would rather be surrounded with tranquility, joy, freedom and such an awesome company. From the sun-kissed beaches, an exuberant crowd, mouthwatering Goan cuisine, glorious churches marking the imprint of Portuguese culture, ferry ride  to the diverse nightlife scene offers everything from excellent live music to ultra-cool bars, trendy clubs and great restaurants. The silence of Palolem beach accompanied with the serenity of backwaters in Canacona is a delight for people who are in search of peace, far away from the daily errands and chores. The hustle-bustle of north Goa full of party goers queued to the famous Tito’s lane, the cuisine with  vindaloo and   xacuti , the glorious churches, the   fenny …everything about Goa is mesmerizing.   ...

Confession of a teaholic!

Image
I wake up every morning, dry mouth and head towards the kitchen for my mystical cup of tea. The impact of not having your morning tea can be severe; it just won’t upset your mood but can cause some serious damage too. Like in my case, I banged my car to a divider on the way to work, root cause – missed my morning tea which could have revived my sluggish brain. Tea is one of the revered beverages in India and is an integral part of our daily lives; whether it’s a get together with friends or family, taking break between our hectic work schedules, catch up with friends/colleagues for some spicy gossips and even when you are doing nothing at all. Tea is for all the occasions.   I wonder what this world would have been without tea. There is so much to do over a cup of tea. Morning tea is more like a ritual, which takes you out from the indolent demeanor brought in by the sunrise. Contemplate the day and curse the sun for rising up so early, while relishing every sip o...

“There ain't a journey that doesn’t change you some” – Trek to Dudhsagar waterfalls

Image
Sometimes you don’t know your own strength until you test it. Last year on a Friday night I spontaneously packed my bags and headed for a trip to the Dudhsagar falls. The Dudhsagar Falls (Sea of Milk) are located in the Indian state of Goa, on Goa's border with Karnataka state. I didn’t have a clue that the itinerary included travel by train in second class. A friend of mine and I, who were exhilarated at the thought of our last minute adventure trip, didn’t even have a bed sheet to cover ourselves with in the shivering cold. The train journey was super fun with a bunch of strangers who soon became acquaintances, thanks to dumb charades. We were all excited to get down at the castle rock station. Then came the moment of truth, a trek of 14 kilometers over the railway track. Are you kidding me! I started trekking holding my breath and dreading that I wouldn’t make it to the top. Let me tell you that the trek was not easy at all. We were trekking on a railway track fu...
